Reasons Your Items Are Not Selling on Poshmark - Part 1

Wondering why your items aren't selling on Poshmark? If you want to start making daily sales on Poshmark, keep reading.

After doing so many Poshmark closet reviews for resellers over the past few years, I am going to be doing a series here on my blog about common reasons that you are not making sales on Poshmark.

Let's start with your photos...

Reason #1: Your Photos Aren't Eye-catching-

So I used to work for J-Crew doing mainly visual merchandising. There was one day a month where I had to get there at 3:00 in the morning and then spend HOURS building these elaborate window displays for the stores that coordinating with the current vibe of the store.

J. Crew has an entire team of people who work together to come up with these window displays with the main goal of getting customers into the store. They then have every single J. Crew store build these displays in the windows. They are literally spending MILLIONS of dollars on these window displays that represent the store.

Why? Because they get people to come in the door. And then those people buy things. And then J. Crew makes lots of money.

Why is this important to you? You probably don't have brick & mortar stores across the country. But you DO have a square in the Poshmark app that is on millions of peoples phones.

This little square is your window display. It is your one chance to catch someones attention to get them to buy your item and not someone else's. Therefore it is your TOP priority to make sure your photos are going to hook customers and bring them into your closet.

How do you do that? Make your photos look professional. This is not a difficult task. You only need a simple background and some good lighting.

If you are going to invest in anything for your reselling business, I highly recommend putting photography lighting at the top of your list (I will link everything that I use below.)

Personally, I use my wall as a background because it is white. I also have a gray background to use for lighter colored items to give some contrast so that they show up in photos. If you do not have a white wall, you can order a photography background for your setup.

There is also a free app called photoroom that you can use to brighten the background for your photos, but I still recommend using a white wall/background + lighting to showcase the item in the best way possible. (You do not want to edit the photos to a point where it alters the colors in the item you are selling.)

There are several ways to take photos, depending on the item you are photographing. It is helpful to keep a mannequin on hand for showing fitted items and some sort of solid background for doing flat lay photography on the floor or table. Personally, I use white faux fur because the texture looks great in photos to showcase items. (Everything I use is linked below)

Whether you are reselling as a side hustle, or you want to build it into a full-time online business, you need to start putting effort into your photos now. Because when you are selling items online and your customers can't physically see and touch the items, the photos are what convinces them to go through with the purchase.

If you are wanting to grow your reselling business and would like a one on one closet review, I would love to work with you to come up with a plan to meet your goals and start making consistent sales!
